Edo born boxing Legend, Stanley Eribo a.k.a Edo boy has given reasons why he had to relocate to Lagos from Benin where he is so well known.
Until a few Months ago, he was one of the bright lights in Benin; haven won a National Welterweight title fight in Lagos.
He retained the Welterweight African Boxing Union Championship belt following his victory over Ramadhan Shauri of Tanzania at the GOtv Boxing Night 12 in Lagos.
But unknown to many of his fans, the boxer has relocated to Lagos citing unreadiness by well-meaning people from Edo support his career with funds.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Nigerian Pilot, Edo boy a.k.a said his supporters in Benin need to emulate the support demonstrated by his fans in Lagos
“I decided to relocate to Lagos because I have support from Yoruba people. As I speak to you somebody here paid for my hotel and made this training facility available. Before I left Benin, I approached so many for support but they were not willing to support me.
The boxing champion had this to say about his experience in Benin, “Benin has always been my hometown. It is not possible for any man to give up or reject his hometown but one must find a way of sponsoring your boxing Career. It cost money.” He said
He gave assurance however that he will once again do his home state proud when he confronts his opponent in the scheduled fight he is training for saying he fights better when there is a handicap.
Reacting to his call for assistance Edo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Mr. Mika Amanokhai said the boxer need to follow laid down procedures for securing assistance pointing out that the government does not offer assistance to Sportsmen simply because they are able to express one or two things on the pages of newspapers.Read Full Story
