The Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Media and Information Communications Technology, Mr Tahav Agerzua, on Monday, said Governor Samuel Ortom does not betray people and has immense respect for Senator Barnabas Gemade.
Gemade, a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party and the senator representing Benue North East Senatorial District, defected to the Social Democratic Party on Monday.
Agerzua said, “This is because Governor Ortom does not betray people not to talk of someone of Gemade’s personality. Let it be on record that Governor Ortom has immense respect for the person and political stature of Senator Barnabas Gemade and has done everything to accord him his due respect.
“However, it should be noted that Ortom does not have the capacity to compel delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party to vote for any candidate.
“Even for his nomination for re-election, Governor Ortom has embarked on an intensive consultation with PDP stakeholders across the state during which he presented his scorecard while advancing reasons why they should nominate him.
“He appealed to other aspirants to also consult with delegates and persuade them in a similar manner.
“Yet as a Christian, the governor believes that a man can receive nothing except it’s given him from above since the ultimate power belongs to God.”
Gemade, who left the All Progressives Congress for the PDP a few weeks ago was said to have moved to the SDP where he picked the party form for his senatorial ambition.
The senator had three weeks ago picked the expression of interest and nomination forms of the PDP but checks from the state party secretariat revealed that Gemade did not return the forms.
